Need to figure out what to do on Halloween? Or what to serve for a Halloween party? Or how to host a Halloween party? This guide has got your back!
What Are You Going To Want To Do On Halloween?
Option One: Find a Halloween party, and go to it.
• If you go with this option, you won’t have to host a party, or be at home all day if you don’t want to be.
Option Two: Don’t find a Halloween party, create your own Halloween party!
• With this option, you get to create the party, so yeah there will be more costs, but the theme will be your idea, and you’ll be the cause of the fun instead of just going along with the fun.
• You get to decide when the party starts, and when it ends.
• This option will be great for party planners, and people who like to host parties.
• You get the option of deciding who will be at the party, such as just your friends/family, or everyone.
Option Three: Stay at home, and relax.
• This option is as just as great as the other ones, especially if you’re not a big party person and don’t want a ton of friends over either.
• You can have a small group of friends/family over to hang out, eat candy, and watch movies. You can also decide if you want to pass out candy or not.
If Any Of The Party Options, What Theme Will The Halloween Party Be?
• Murder Mystery Dinner: Host a murder mystery game where guests play characters and solve a Halloween-themed crime. And have everyone dress up as their characters – for this, you can send them their character information beforehand. Or provide costumes if you want it to be a surprise.
• Costume Party: Throw a themed costume party, such as a classic monsters theme, horror movie characters, 80s Halloween, etc.
• Haunted Carnival Party: Set up carnival games with a spooky twist, like ring toss with glow-in-the-dark rings or a “guess the body part” game.
• Pumpkin Spice Party: Celebrate all things pumpkin spice with themed treats, drinks, and cozy fall décor.
• Glow-in-the-Dark Party: Decorate with black lights and glow sticks. Serve neon-colored drinks and food that glows under black light.
• Escape Room at Home: Create a Halloween-themed escape room with puzzles and clues for guests to solve.
For Any Of The Options, You’re Gonna Need Halloween Music, So What Halloween Playlist Will You Be Playing?
• Halloween Playlist: Create a playlist featuring Halloween classics like “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, “Monster Mash” by Bobby Pickett, and “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr. And maybe even add a bit of retro Halloween with “It’s Halloween!” by iamnotshane!
• Spooky Soundtracks: Play eerie background music or sounds of howling wolves, creaking doors, and ghostly whispers.
If Any Of The Party Options, What Kind Of Activities Will Be At The Party?
• A Pumpkin Carving Contest – provide the pumpkin carving tools & stencils, carve pumpkins, and then maybe give a prize out (like candy or a Halloween-themed trophy) for the best pumpkin carving.
• Haunted House Tour – Either create a haunted house for people to tour, or go on a walk to a nearby haunted house if you’re not too far away from one. If walking, try to trick-or-treat on the way if you can.
• Trick-Or-Treat – Even if you’re an adult, some houses will still give you candy, so have your whole group go trick-or-treating and make it a competition to see who can get the most candy. Winner gets a prize like a Halloween-themed trophy.
• A Costume Contest – Have everyone arrive in a costume, and give a prize to the best costume.
• Horror Movie/TV Show Marathon – Dedicate the whole/half the night to watching scary movies/tv shows and eating snacks/candy. Could play a drinking game where you take a shot (could be alcohol if you’re an adult, soda, or coffee if you want to skip the hangover and get a caffeine buzz instead) with friends every time someone in the horror movie makes a stereotypical decision or says a certain phrase that’s common in horror movies. And if you want to make it even more fun, you could pick a known b-rated/c-rated movie that you know will be terrible, and spend the whole time making witty jokes at the movie with your friends.
• Go See A Horror Movie At The Theatre – This option would be for the people who either want to see a new movie without renting it on tv or people who want to share the scares with other people. It would be even cooler to see an interactive movie where the seats move with every jumpscare if that’s an option that’s available.
• Ghost Storytelling – Have everyone find and pick a ghost story online to tell, make sure no one chooses the same one, gather around a fire outside or a dimly lit room with a flashlight that the person speaking will hold, and then tell your ghost stories with some eerie music/sound effects in the background.
• Halloween Crafts – Get a bunch of random crafting supplies, or have people bring their own crafting supplies, and have a crafting night with Halloween music on in the background.
• Karaoke Party: Have a Halloween-themed karaoke session with guests singing in costume.
• Interactive Games: Play games like “Pin the Hat on the Witch,” Halloween charades, or a themed trivia quiz.
Party Or Not, What Kind Of Food Will There Be?
• Spooky Food: Serve up eerie dishes like “Witch’s Brew” soup, “Mummy” hot dogs, a “Graveyard” chocolate pudding, etc.
• Candy Bar: Set up a candy buffet with an assortment of Halloween-themed candies like candy corn, chocolate pumpkins, gummy worms, eyeball gumballs, etc.
• Trick-or-Treat Bags: Prepare themed treat bags with a mix of Halloween-themed candy, packaged snacks (like cashews), and Halloween knick-knacks.
• DIY Candy Station: Let guests make their own spooky candy creations, like decorating caramel apples or dipping marshmallows in chocolate.
• Healthy Treat Alternatives: Offer spooky fruit skewers, ghost bananas, and/or “witches’ broomsticks” made of pretzels and string cheese.
• Gourmet Chocolates: Include high-quality, themed chocolates shaped like skulls, coffins, and/or spiders.
• Retro Candy: Include old-school candies like Pixy Stix, Tootsie Rolls, Pop Rocks, etc.
• Spooky Cocktails/Mocktails: Mix up Halloween-themed drinks like “Bloody Marys,” “Witches’ Brew,” and/or “Black Widow” martinis.
• Eerie Potluck: Host a potluck where each guest brings a dish inspired by horror movies or Halloween themes.
• Candy Charcuterie Board: Create a charcuterie board but with candy! Include a mix of sweet, sour, and chocolatey treats, along with some spooky decorations.
• Bring Your Own Charcuterie Board: Give everyone a specific type of charcuterie board to make (meat, cheese, fruit, candy, etc.) so that no one makes the same one, and at the party there will be many boards with many different options! Can also have themes like crime scene, murder mystery, ghostbusters, etc.
• Halloween Beignet Station: Have a station (the stovetop which you keep track of, and put a lid on the pan until use just in case) with beignet dough & Halloween themed medium sized cookie cutters (tombstones, spiders, etc.). Have everyone choose the cookie cutter shape they want, and make the shapes in the dough before frying them. Have toppings like powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, jam, etc. And make sure to turn off the stovetop when all of the beignets are made.
What About The Decorations For The Party?
• Creepy Outdoor Decor: Set the scene with tombstones, cobwebs, and eerie lighting. Add fog machines and sound effects for an extra fright.
• Indoor Spookiness: Decorate with black candles, fake spiders, and Halloween-themed tablecloths. Consider a themed centerpiece like a skull or a cauldron.
• Halloween Tree: Similar to a Christmas tree, but decked out in black, orange, and purple ornaments, with lights and Halloween-themed decorations.
• Window Silhouettes: Create spooky silhouettes like witches, ghosts, or bats to stick on your windows. Can also draw on the windows with window chalk/markers.
• Themed Rooms: Designate each room with a different theme, like a witch’s lair, a vampire’s den, or a ghostly graveyard.
I’ll update this list as more ideas come to mind, so stay tuned!
Hope you all have a terrific day today!
